Dynamic Movement Intervention (DMI) is a structured, hands-on therapy used to improve gross motor skills in children with motor delays and neurological or genetic conditions. The therapist guides the child through specific exercises, with precise handling and carefully graded support, so that the child learns to produce the movement actively.
DMI is built on neuroplasticity, the brain’s ability to form and strengthen movement pathways through repeated, meaningful practice. As the child gets stronger, support is reduced step by step, so the child does more of the work.
Children who may benefit from DMI
DMI is used for children with motor delay across a range of diagnoses. Whether it is the right fit is decided after assessment.
Not sure whether your child’s delay needs DMI? An assessment gives you a clear answer.
How DMI is different
DMI can sit alongside other therapies. Here is what sets its approach apart.
DMI is one approach and may be combined with speech, feeding and other therapies when your child needs them.
What a DMI session looks like
Focused, hands-on and paced to your child’s comfort.
Warm-up
Gentle movement and positioning to get your child ready and relaxed.
Guided exercises
The therapist leads specific DMI exercises chosen for your child’s next milestone.
Progressive challenge
Support is eased back as your child shows they can do more.
Home plan
You learn which exercises to practise at home and how to do them safely.
Why DMI Level C matters
DMI is taught to therapists in levels. Level C is the highest level of DMI training, so your child’s exercises and progressions are guided by a therapist trained at an advanced level.
At PediGym, DMI is led by Dr. Nitin Gupta, DMI Level C Therapist.
Introductory

Intermediate
Wider exercise range and more complex progressions.
Advanced PediGym

DMI therapy FAQs
Quick answers to what parents in Faridabad ask us before their first visit.
What is DMI therapy?
Dynamic Movement Intervention is a hands-on motor therapy. The therapist guides your child through specific exercises with graded support, helping them build strength, posture, balance and movement skills.
Which children can benefit from DMI?
DMI is used for children with motor delay, including those with Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, low muscle tone, global developmental delay and genetic conditions. After an assessment, we tell you if it suits your child.
At what age can DMI start?
It can begin in infancy and continue through childhood. Starting early is helpful, but there is no need to wait for a formal diagnosis to book an assessment.
Is DMI painful or tiring for my child?
Exercises are challenging but guided carefully and paced to your child’s comfort. Your child may tire or fuss at times, and the therapist adjusts the session accordingly.
How is DMI different from regular physiotherapy?
DMI is more structured and specific, with precise handling, dynamic stretching and a clear progression for each exercise. It can be combined with other therapies.
How many sessions will my child need?
It depends on your child’s age, condition and goals. We discuss session frequency after assessment and review progress regularly. We do not promise fixed timelines, because every child is different.
Do parents have to practise at home?
Home practice helps a lot. We teach you simple, safe exercises so that progress continues between sessions.
